چکیده

This note concerns stochastic processes on chains of arbitrary length whose Poisson kernel can be expressed in terms of the q-Racah polynomials, the most general q-deformed orthogonal polynomials in the discrete series of the Askey scheme. We give a new interpretation of this kernel as the probability transition density for a subordinated Markov process with only nearest neighbor hops. As an application, we give an elementary proof and extend a positivity result for a class of Poisson kernels which Gasper and Rahman established with direct methods.

On the Limit from q-Racah Polynomials to Big q-Jacobi Polynomials

A limit formula from q-Racah polynomials to big q-Jacobi polynomials is given which can be considered as a limit formula for orthogonal polynomials. This is extended to a multi-parameter limit with 3 parameters, also involving (q-)Hahn polynomials, little q-Jacobi polynomials and Jacobi polynomials. Also the limits from Askey–Wilson to Wilson polynomials and from q-Racah to Racah polynomials ar...

Nonsymmetric Askey-Wilson polynomials and Q-polynomial distance-regular graphs

In his famous theorem (1982), Douglas Leonard characterized the q-Racah polynomials and their relatives in the Askey scheme from the duality property of Q-polynomial distance-regular graphs. In this paper we consider a nonsymmetric (or Laurent) version of the q-Racah polynomials in the above situation. Let Γ denote a Q-polynomial distance-regular graph that contains a Delsarte clique C. Assume ...

A q-analogue of the 9-j symbols and their orthogonality

We introduce a q-analogue of Wigner’s 9 − j symbols following the notational scheme used by Wilson in identifying the 6 − j symbols with Racah polynomials, which eventually led Askey and Wilson to obtain a q-analogue of them, namely, the q-Racah polynomials. More importantly, we prove the orthogonality of our analogue in complete generality, as well as derive a polynomial expression for these n...

On Some Limit Cases of Askey-wilson Polynomials

We show that limit transitions from Askey-Wilson polynomials to q-Racah, little and big q-Jacobi polynomials can be made rigorous on the level of their orthogonality measures in a suitable weak sense. This allows us to derive the orthogonality relations and norm evaluations for the q-Racah polynomials, little and big q-Jacobi polynomials by taking limits in the orthogonality relations and norm ...

DUAL PROPERTIES OF ORTHOGONAL POLYNOMIALS OF DISCRETE VARIABLES ASSOCIATED WITH THE QUANTUM ALGEBRA Uq(su(2))

We show that for every set of discrete polynomials yn(x(s)) on the lattice x(s), defined on a finite interval (a, b), it is possible to construct two sets of dual polynomials zk(ξ(t)) of degrees k = s−a and k = b− s− 1. Here we do this for the classical and alternative Hahn and Racah polynomials as well as for their q-analogs. Also we establish the connection between classical and alternative f...
